Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) During Pregnancy
Image
CVS - Chorionic Villus Sampling - is a test that can provide important information about your baby’s health.
You may be offered Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) for various reasons, such as
- being 40 or older
- having a higher chance of genetic abnormality in your baby (based on prenatal genetic screening blood tests, ultrasound or NT ultrasound)
- being pregnant with more than one baby
This diagnostic test can usually be done between 11 and 13 weeks of pregnancy. A small amount of tissue (chorionic villi) is removed through the vagina or the abdomen with a needle. You will usually get the results between weeks 13 and16 of your pregnancy.
