Community Health Centres

Community Health Centres (CHC) have delivered community primary care, health promotion services and provided access to social services in BC for over 50 years. They provide integrated, people-centred health services and programs that reflect the needs and priorities of the diverse communities they serve.

A CHC helps people who otherwise face barriers to accessing primary care in a community or people who may not have a primary care provider such as a family doctor or nurse practitioner. Community health centres aim to connect people with primary health care services that are community-led and culturally safe.

CHCs provide access to care services for patients who:

  • Experience barriers to care
  • May have unmet medical and social needs
  • May have mental health and substance use challenges
  • May be new to Canada
  • May require help getting connected to other community services

Not every CHC offers primary care services with a doctor or nurse practitioner. If you need a primary care provider, register on the Health Connect Registry to get matched with a family doctor or nurse practitioner in your community.
