Find a family doctor or nurse practitioner

If you need a primary care provider, register on the Health Connect Registry to get matched with a family doctor or nurse practitioner in your community.

How to register

How to update your information

It is critical that our attachment team have your current contact information and that all family members are included in your HCR registration. If you have recently moved or your contact information has changed, call 8-1-1 to ensure the correct information is on file so, when a family doctor or nurse practitioner is available, you’re attached quickly.

Access urgent or same day care

Most clinics strive to accommodate urgent needs, but appointments are not guaranteed. If you are unable to see your own primary care provider, or do not have a primary care provider, contact an Urgent and Primary Care Centre in Nanaimo:

Can a pharmacist help?

Your community pharmacist may be able to assess and prescribe for some minor health issues, provide vaccines, prescribe contraceptives, or provide an emergency medication refill. Search "pharmacy" above and check with the pharmacist to see if your condition or medication qualifies.

Not sure if it’s urgent?

Connect with 8-1-1 for personalized assistance. Speak to a navigator who can guide you to reliable health information or connect you with a health professional.

When to go to the emergency department

If you or someone in your care is experiencing a health crisis or has an urgent medical condition, visit the nearest emergency department or call 9-1-1. Visit Island Health's Find Care page for emergency department wait times and explore your care options.
