Heavy Use of Alcohol

Heavy use of alcohol is defined as having:

  • More than 3 drinks a day on most days or more than 15 drinks a week if you're a man.
  • More than 2 drinks a day on most days or more than 10 drinks a week if you're a woman.

One drink is 341 mL (12 fl oz) bottle of 5% beer or wine cooler, 142 mL (5 fl oz) glass of 12% wine, or 43 mL (1.5 fl oz) of 40% hard liquor.

Heavy use of alcohol increases the risk for many health problems.
