Making small changes to your home can help you stay safer and more independent as you age. Simply installing double handrails in stairways and bathtub grab bars can help prevent falls and related injuries so you can safely stay in your current home.

There are programs available to help make your home safer, more accessible, and more energy efficient as you age.

  • Home Adaptations for Independence
Home Adaptations for Independence helps low-income seniors and people with disabilities finance home modifications for accessible, safe, and independent living. Eligible homeowners, renters, and landlords can receive up to $20,000 (per home) in the form of a forgivable loan.
  • BC Seniors' Home Renovation Tax Credit
The BC Seniors' Home Renovation Tax Credit is a refundable personal income tax credit to help seniors aged 65 and over with the cost of certain permanent home renovations.
  • Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP) On-Reserve
RRAP On-Reserve offers financial assistance to First Nations and First Nation members to repair homes to a minimum level of health and safety.
  • Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation Green Home Program
The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation Green Home program helps make energy-efficient housing more affordable.
