By registering for the Health Connect Registry, the attachment coordination team in your community is made aware that you need a family doctor or nurse practitioner.
Make a change to your registration
Keeping your registration information up to date helps us match you and the people you care for to a primary care provider. You can change your registration details anytime to update:
- Contact details (email or phone number)
- Home address
- Changes to your health conditions and care needs
If you are no longer looking for a provider
At this time, adding or removing family members can only be done over the phone. If you need to add or remove family members to your registration, call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 for help.
What happens next
The attachment coordination team in your community will review your registration details. We may contact you to:
- Get more information from you
- Provide updates on your registration
- Give you information on health services available while you wait to be matched
Some people have serious health conditions that need timely assessment and treatment. People who need care the most are prioritized and this may impact how long you wait.
When a family doctor or nurse practitioner in your area becomes available, the team will contact you to complete the intake process. This usually includes an appointment with the family doctor or nurse practitioner so you can meet. If you both agree, you will become “attached” to the family doctor or nurse practitioner as your long-term primary care provider.
If the match is unsuccessful, you will remain on the Health Connect Registry, and we will find you another match. You will maintain your original position on the Registry.
Find local health services and supports
We recognize you may have been waiting for some time to find a family doctor or nurse practitioner. While we are unable to estimate how long it will take to be matched, health care services are available while you wait.
Explore primary health care services available in your community and learn about your local Primary Care Network (PCN).
Primary care services are available in communities throughout B.C., including:
Provide access to same-day, urgent, non-emergency health care and are often open evenings, weekends and statutory holidays (actual hours vary by clinic). UPCCs are an alternative to visiting the hospital for issues that don’t require emergency care.
Pharmacies around B.C. are available to assess and provide prescriptions for minor conditions, prescribe contraceptives, administer some immunizations and renew and change some prescriptions.
The First Nations Virtual Doctor of the Day and First Nations Virtual Substance Use and Psychiatry Service can provide Indigenous people with access to virtual primary care physicians, psychiatrists, addictions specialists, and other providers specialized in culturally safe care.
