When you experience domestic abuse, it can affect every part of your life.

And breastfeeding is no exception.

Breastfeeding can be a source of healing. But, for moms who’ve been abused, it can also create discomfort or stress. The best time to find help is while you’re pregnant; your healthcare provider can work with you to make sure you get the support you need when the time comes to breastfeed.

If you’re already trying to breastfeed and you’re having difficulties, it’s important to find someone who will listen to your concerns. Start with your healthcare provider. A lactation consultant may also be able to help.
