There are numerous mental health and substance use related services and resources available to British Columbians. Below is a short list of these resources.

Anxiety Canada

Anxiety Canada is a non-profit organization which provides self-help, peer reviewed and trusted resources on anxiety.

BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services

BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services (BCMHSUS), an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), provides a range of specialized mental health and substance use services for adults across the province.

Bounce Back

Bounce Back is led by the BC Division of the Canadian Mental Health Association. Their program is designed to help adults experiencing symptoms of mild to moderate depression, low mood, or stress, with or without anxiety.

British Columbia Responsible & Problem Gambling Program

British Columbia Responsible & Problem Gambling Program is an information and referral service online and by phone for anyone who is adversely affected by their own, or another’s gambling habit. The Problem Gambling Help Line at 1 888 795-6111 is confidential and available in multiple languages, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

British Columbia Schizophrenia Society

The British Columbia Schizophrenia Society (BCSS) is a non-profit, province-wide family support system dedicated to supporting individuals who have or are impacted by schizophrenia, educating the public, raising funds for research, and advocating for better services for people with schizophrenia and other serious and persistent mental illness.

Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research
The Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research (CISUR), formerly the Centre for Addictions Research of BC, at the University of Victoria, is a network of individuals and groups dedicated to the study of substance use and addiction. CISUR seeks to support community-wide efforts to promote health and reduce harm.

Canadian Mental Health Association - British Columbia

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is a national charity that helps maintain and improve mental health for all Canadians.

Crisis Centre

The Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Centre of BC (Crisis Centre) is a non-profit, volunteer organization committed to helping people help themselves and others deal with crisis. Their services include a 24/7 distress phone line, online distress services and community education. If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide, call 1-800-784-2433 (1-800-SUICIDE).

Early Psychosis Intervention

Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) is an online resource designed to help individuals and families understand psychosis, the importance of early intervention, and find information or services on age-appropriate and stage-appropriate treatments.

HeretoHelp

HeretoHelp provides information related to mental health and substance use. Their website includes personal stories, self-help resources and information about getting help now.

Heads Up Guys

Heads Up Guys is based out of the University of British Columbia and is part of the Men’s Depression and Suicide Network, a Canada-wide initiative to develop resources, services and programs to improve the mental health and well-being of men. Their website provides information, tips and advice to support men in their fight against depression.

KUU-US Crisis Line Society

The KUU-US Crisis Line Society provides a First Nations and Indigenous specific crisis line available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, toll-free from anywhere in British Columbia.

KUU-US Crisis Line can be reached toll-free at 1-800-588-8717. Alternatively, individuals can call direct into the Youth Line at 250-723-2040 or the Adult Line at 250-723-4050.

MindHealthBC

Developed by Vancouver Coastal Health and Providence Health Care, MindHealthBC provides easy access to information and resources related to mental health and substance use conditions. Visit their website to find help for yourself or to help someone you know.

Mood Disorder Association

Mood Disorders Association of BC (MDABC) is a non-profit organization that provides treatment, support, education, and hope of recovery for people living with a mood disorder. They serve to build awareness and understanding in communities throughout the province, reaching out to as many people as possible.

Toward the Heart 

Visit the Toward the Heart website for information on naloxone and fentanyl. The website features an Overdose Survival Guide, a Train the Trainer Guide for the naloxone administration, a video on How to Use Naloxone, and more.

Alcohol & Drug Information and Referral Service

Call 1-800-663-1441 (toll-free in B.C.) or 604-660-9382 (in the Lower Mainland) to find resources and support. They can refer you to services across the province.

BC Children's Hospital - Mental Health Services

Mental Health Services at BC Children's Hospital provides psychiatric assessment, short-term individual, family and group treatment and medication review.

Family Smart

FamilySmart™ is at the heart and foundation of all the work of the unified non-profit organizations: The F.O.R.C.E. Society for Kids’ Mental Health (the FORCE) and National Institute of Families for Child & Youth Mental Health (Institute of Families).

Foundrybc.ca

Foundrybc.ca offers health and wellness resources, services and supports for young people ages 12-24 across BC.

Jessie’s Legacy

Jessie’s Legacy provides online eating disorder prevention education, resources and support for youth, families, educators and professionals across British Columbia.

Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre

The Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre is a provincial resource centre that provides mental health and substance use information, resources and peer support to children, youth and their families from across B.C. Contact the Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre toll-free anywhere in B.C. by phone (1-800-665-1822), email (keltycentre@cw.bc.ca), or in person at BC Children’s Hospital.  

Kids Help Phone

Kids Help Phone is a toll-free, 24-hour, phone counselling, web counselling, and referral service for children and youth. The service is completely anonymous and confidential. To speak to a counsellor, call 1-800-668-6868.

Dealing with Depression (DWD)

DWD is for teens who have been coping with depressed mood. It teaches a set of skills you can apply to your own life to overcome depression.

Stresslr

Developed by BC Children's Hospital, Stresslr is a free web app that provides a fun and engaging way for children ages 9 to 11 to understand what causes them stress, how they react to it and to develop healthy strategies to cope with stress in their everyday lives.
