Connect: Build Positive Relationships

Five ways to well-being: Connect

Positive social relationships promote well-being and mental wellness.

Connect with the people around you – with family, friends, colleagues and neighbours – at home, work, school or in your community. Think of these relationships as the cornerstones of your life and invest time in developing them. These connections will support and enrich you every day.

Actions you can take:

  • Volunteer in your community.

  • Take part in activities or committees at work.
  • Check out your local cultural centres and get involved with cultural activities, dance, events and music.
  • Join a team, club, society or organization that has meaning for you. Try crafts, sports, music, book clubs, travel, games or outdoor activities – just to name a few.
  • Host a potluck lunch at work or a dinner in your neighborhood.
  • Practice smiling at strangers – you may be surprised at the smiles you get back!
  • Start a joke collection and share with friends.
  • Read your local newspaper or bulletin board in a community centre or store to find out what is happening in your neighbourhood.
  • Disconnect from screens – play cards or try a board game instead.
  • Learn more about other views of connectedness and spirituality in your community.
