Sample meal plate showing 1/2 plate vegetables and fruit, 1/4 plate protein foods, and 1/4 plate whole grain foods, with water as drink

An average meal in Canada has too many calories and too much fat, cholesterol, animal protein, salt, and sugar. It is missing whole grains and fresh fruits and doesn't have enough vegetables.

Use the Eat Well Plate from Canada's Food Guide to help you make healthy choices:

  • Fill one-fourth of your plate with whole grain foods.
  • Fill one-fourth of your plate with protein foods.
  • Fill the remaining half of your plate with vegetables and fruits.
  • Make water your drink of choice.
