Bed bugs are small brown insects that can be found in your home, hotels and other dwellings. Bed bugs feed on human blood and their bite can cause skin irritations. For more information on bed bugs, see HealthLinkBC File #95 Bed Bugs.
To prevent bedbugs and kissing bugs from coming into your home:
Remove debris, such as wood and paper trash
piles, where these bugs may hide.
Do not bring infested items into your house.
Carefully check luggage and clothing, especially after travelling.
If you have concerns about bugs in your clothing, wash clothes in hot water and dry them on the hot cycle of the clothes dryer.
If you can't get rid of the bugs yourself, you can call an insect control company for treatment choices. Make sure that the product the company uses has been shown to be effective against bedbugs and kissing bugs.
